Home sweet home

It' lovely to sleep in once in a while. Spend the day in pyjamas, puttering around the house. Drink coffee for an hour and play with the phone's camera app (which is the best feature in my new phone - at least until the novelty wears off).

(On ihanaa olla kotona päivällä kun muut ovat töissä. Pidän siitä, että saan puuhastella pyjamanhousut päällä, juoda tunnin aamukahvia ja leikkiä puhelimen kamerasovelluksella.)

Goodbye Christmas

We (my flatmate and I) packed away most of our Christmas decorations last week as well as our tiny Christmas tree.

The star on the kitchen window was allowed to stay, because we like the yellow light in the kitchen. (Look how much snow there is on the trees right now!)

And we couldn't hide these darling deers (which I found for a couple of euros at H&M's a few years back) in a box. Instead we dubbed them winter decorations and keep them at least until February!

(On ihanaa jäädä päivällä kotiin.

Mad about tape

I know, everyone has been enthusing about washi tape for quite a while now, nothing new there. And I wasn't the only one who used it for Christmas presents and gift tags either... (Though I might be the only one who forgot to photograph the gift tags. Oops.)

Habitat tape rolls were 50% off after Christmas, so I bought a few rolls (though I shouldn't have waited for the sales, since I didn't get my favourite tape with hearts and little birds).

Lately I discovered the Finnish webshop Teippitarha, so I guess some more tape is in order! This washi tape set with numbers and clear dymo tape are my current favourites from the shop.

(Hulluna teippeihin.)

Christmas came and went...

but I could stare at these decorations by Klaus Haapaniemi all year long (available here). Especially the bat!

01012012

Oh to be woken by the sun on the first day of the year!

Took a walk in the afternoon, after a leisurely breakfast, to catch the last glimmer of the setting sun. Everything still, sugar-coated, the world seemed - if only for a while - brand new and somehow hopeful.

Muted colours, frozen puddles, frost nipping at noses and toes and fingertips.

Toiveikas olo.)

The first week of 2012

On the first week of 2012 I have

- crocheted circles
- marveled at the light after a dreary, rainy December

- read a very gripping novel
- poured my heart out while eating the best. pizza. ever (portobello mushrooms, mozzarella and lots of rocket)
- attended two parties where I hardly knew half of the guests
- waiting for that 'new year, new possibilities' -feeling to kick in (does it ever?)

(Vuoden ensimmäinen viikko. Olen virkannut ympyröitä, hämmästellyt valoa, lukenut jännittävän kirjan, purkanut sydäntäni syödessäni maailman parasta pizzaa täällä, ollut kaksissa juhlissa, joissa en tuntenut juuri ketään, ja odottanut, että uusi vuosi alkaa tuntua toiveikkaalta.)

A new beginning

Sometimes a new beginning is just what you need, and I guess January is the month for beginning.

(Even if the newness is rather superficial.)
